Albany County Becomes Leader Against Needless Waste

Statement by Travis Proulx, Communications Director

“Albany County Executive Dan McCoy and the Legislature have demonstrated true leadership by acting to rid our communities of needless plastic foam waste. We can expect that local governments – state and nationwide – will be following Albany County’s lead.

There is no upside to using plastic foam containers. In fact, many large corporations impacted by this measure have proactively identified environmentally responsible alternatives because they know this product isn’t good for their consumers. It is not reusable or recyclable, litters our sidewalks, leaches toxins into our food, and will outlive each of us by 500 years.

Executive McCoy and county legislators prioritized the public good, and they deserve our thanks for taking a stand against a well-funded industry focused solely on profit.”
