MEDIA ADVISORY
Rally to
Tell Bob Wright He's Wrong
Supporters of a clean Hudson River to protest at Radio City Music Hall
NBC + GE = PCBs
WHEN: Monday, May 14, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
WHERE: Radio City Music Hall, northeast corner 50th St. and Ave. of the Americas
WHAT: As NBC announces its new fall lineup of shows to its advertisers, Friends of a
Clean Hudson, a coalition of New York State Environmental Groups that
supports removing toxic PCBs from the Hudson River, will rally at Radio City
Music Hall to tell Bob Wright He's Wrong.
Visual: The PCB Rockettes will entertain advertisers on their way into the party.
In April, NBC President Robert C. Wright lobbied members of the New York
City Council in opposition to a resolution supporting a cleanup of Hudson River
PCBs. Friends of a Clean Hudson believes this was a conflict of interest for
Wright, who is also a vice president of General Electric, the corporation
responsible for the river's PCB pollution. Friends of a Clean Hudson will be
asking NBC sponsors to sign a petition calling for GE to clean up its mess in the
Hudson River.
FRIENDS OF A CLEAN HUDSON is a coalition of national, state and regional organizations including the Appalachian Mountain Club, Arbor Hill Environmental Justice Corporation, Coast Alliance, Environmental Advocates, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Natural Resources Defense Council, New York Public Interest Research Group, New York Rivers United, Riverkeeper, Scenic Hudson, and the Sierra Club. The coalition is working to restore the Hudson River by supporting cleanup of PCB contamination in the river.
