Praise for Attorney General's Plan to Sue Feds on Global Warming;
New York Should Cap Carbon from Power
Plants also
Statement of Anne Reynolds, Air and Energy Program Director at
Environmental Advocates of New York, regarding Attorney General Eliot
Spitzer's initiative to sue the Bush administration on global warming
"The Attorney General's plan to sue the Bush administration for failing
to act on carbon pollution from power plants is a welcome development
in the fight to combat global warming. Global warming pollution is a
serious problem that deserves serious attention, but the President is
intent on burying his head in the sand on this issue."
"When it comes to power plant pollution, the Bush administration has
completely failed to meet their responsibility to protect our health
and environment. Attorney General Eliot Spitzer is stepping in in
recognition of that fact."
"Here in New York, Governor Pataki can and should address this issue
by capping carbon pollution from power plants. He has recognized the
problem of global warming, and studied possible solutions. A cap on
carbon emissions will reduce global warming pollution while
simultaneously cutting back on smog and acid rain."
"New York can take responsibility for our fair share of the pollution
that causes global warming, and make our local air cleaner at the same
time. This lawsuit is a good step for pushing the Feds. We also need
state action through a carbon cap for power plants."
