Help Make a Green Splash this Earth Day To celebrate Earth Day this year, Environmental Advocates of
New York is teaming up with green groups from across the state to show state lawmakers that New Yorkers are united in their support of common-sense legislation that protects our environment.
LOCATION Legislative Office Building, Hearing Room C, Albany, New York SCHEDULE FOR DAY 9:30-10 - Registration (coffee & donuts), Hearing Room C, LOB 10-11:45 - Speakers and issue briefings, Hearing Room C, LOB - Governor David A. Paterson - Assemblyman Bob Sweeney - Senator Carl Marcellino - & various environmental leaders 12-12:30 - Lunch on your own 12:30-3:30 - Lobby Visits, LOB and Capitol 3:30 - Debriefing, Hearing Room C, LOB ADVOCACY AGENDA Global Warming Pollution Cap (A.10303): Directs the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to implement rules requiring sources of air pollution in New York to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050. Wetlands Protection (A.7133/S.3835): Protects wetlands that are one acre or more in size or of significant local importance; current state law only protects wetlands of 12.4 acres or larger.Brownfield Program Reform: Position paper calling on Governor and Legislature to reform the Brownfield Tax Credits and Brownfield Opportunity Area program to provide greater incentives for better cleanups and development that is consistent with community plans. Bigger Better Bottle Bill (A.8044/S.5850): Updates New York’s bottle deposit law to include non-carbonated beverages; requires beverage companies to transfer unclaimed deposits to the State Environmental Protection Fund.
